The Rev. Richard Mosson Weinberg

The Rev. Richard Mosson Weinberg has served parishes in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Ga., and Central America. As rector of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, DC, Richard serves the parish as senior pastor, priest, and administrator. Richard is especially passionate about St. Margaret’s legacy of inclusion and its long-standing cardinal outreach program with neighbors experiencing homelessness, Charlie’s Place. In his work, Richard draws upon more than a decade of non-profit and church-related experience, including an eight-year tenure at Washington National Cathedral.

Prior to his calling in May 2020 as rector, Richard had already served St. Margaret’s for nearly three years–from 2017 to 2019 as associate rector for mission and outreach, and then as priest-in-charge beginning in March 2019, when the former rector, the Rev. Kym Lucas, was elected bishop of Colorado. He also previously served part-time on the bishop of Washington’s staff as a strategic communications advisor.

Richard developed his gifts in preaching, teaching, and pastoring at Christ Episcopal Church, Norcross, Georgia, where he served from 2014 to 2017, first as seminarian and later as interim deacon-in-charge for Hispanic ministry. Fluent in Spanish as a second language, Richard has worked with Latino immigrant communities in D.C. and Atlanta, in addition to serving two times as a short-term missionary in the dioceses of Costa Rica and El Salvador.

Prior to seminary, Richard served at Washington National Cathedral as director of communications, where he worked on high-profile projects including the events to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11. While at the Cathedral, Richard also led outreach with the LGBTQ community, founding the Cathedral Congregation’s LGBT ministry group and serving an instrumental role in the Cathedral’s public witness in support of marriage and transgender equality.

In May 2017, Richard was conferred a Master of Divinity degree by Candler School of Theology at Emory University, where he also graduated with a certificate in Anglican Studies. Richard earned an M.A. in Arts Management from George Mason University in 2006 and returned there to teach public relations and marketing for the arts as an adjunct faculty member in 2013. A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., Richard’s background is in vocal performance. He has sung with the Washington National Opera Chorus, the Candler Singers, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW), GMCW’s small a cappella ensemble Potomac Fever, and with the Washington National Cathedral Choir.

At St. Margaret's we rely on financial gifts from members and guests to support our ministries and mission. There are a number of ways to give, including making a formal annual pledge.
