The Rev. Diana Gustafson
The Rev. Diana Gustafson was appointed to serve as assistant rector of St. Margaret’s in February 2021. In a part-time capacity, Diana shares in the clerical leadership of the parish–with a particular focus on pastoral care and Christian formation.
Diana grew up in the District and received degrees from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and Virginia Theological Seminary. Prior to her journey to the priesthood, she wrote and reported for several science publications, as well as the Washington Post, the Dallas Morning Times and the Wilson Quarterly. She migrated from print to the Internet, editing the home screen of the early AOL platforms, before moving on to study religion at Wesley Theological Seminary. She completed her Master of Divinity degree at VTS in 2016 with an honors thesis on “The Sacred Embodied.”
Diana has served at three churches in the area, most recently as Curate at All Souls Church in Woodley Park. She was ordained as a priest in June 2018. She focuses her ministry on leading people into deeper relationship with Jesus through preaching, prayer, formation, and conversation and in reaching unchurched people, helping them find sacred space in which to encounter the Holy Spirit moving in their lives.
Diana is deeply committed to the work of social and racial justice. She has led workshops on these issues in churches and schools, and she currently sits on the diversity and inclusion board of her local CrossFit Gym. Diana is a certified yoga instructor and enthusiastic CrossFitter. She has two children and three step-children and lives in Cleveland Park with her husband, Tom, and their charming dog, Lola.
