Reverend Hector Madrid Visits St. Margaret's

This Sunday, December 5, at the 11:15 am service, the Rev. Hector Madrid from the village of Proteccion in Honduras will be with us to con-celebrate at our worship. He is in Washington for a few weeks for an English Language course and to spend some time with the churches in our diocese that have been supporting outreach in Proteccion. For several years now, St. Margaret's has supported a clinic in Proteccion which is run by Dr. Waldo Madrid. You may remember us praying for Proteccion in the Prayers of the People in our Sunday worship. Several of our parishioners have visited there in the past.

Proteccion is a small town of 85 families, however the clinic serves 20 other nearby communities with a total of about 1100 families. Rev.Hector Madrid was ordained 22 years ago and is currently the Dean of the Deanery (like one of our regions) of Santa Barbara. The Deanery of Santa Barbara has 15 churches, 4 priests, 2 deacons, and 6 pastoral leaders. The most distant churches are 5 hours travel apart on rough, country roads. Hector is married to Reina and they have three children: Karen 28 years old, Hector 26, and Oscar 24. While Hector has been in Washington he has become a grandfather for the first time, a little boy named Jharel. After the 11:15 worship, Rev. Madrid will give a short presentation in the parlor will and be available to talk with those who are interested in learning more about the work that is being done there.
