It's Time to "Adopt-an-Apartment" for a Homeless Family

God is about to transform the life of a local family with our help.  Can you contribute money or household items to furnish their apartment?  St. Margaret's works with the faith-based non-profit Transitional Housing Corporation, whose Partner Arms residence on Georgia Avenue NW offers a safe home and supportive services for families hoping to start a new life. When an apartment becomes vacant, Churches "adopt" the apartment to furnish and make it move-in ready for the new family. In collaboration with Christ Lutheran Church, St. Margaret's will be "adopting" a two-bedroom apartment for a family with a young mother and two sons (ages 7 and 3)!  We are responsible for purchasing new bedding (mattresses, box springs, frames) and providing linens, blankets and other household items as well as helping with the move-in on Saturday March 2nd.

How we can help: the cost of bedding will be around $750.  If "15 give 50," that is, if 15 parishioners contribute $50, or if more give in any amount that helps us to reach the goal, we can order the bedding equipment in time for the family's arrival.  Donations of new linens and household items are also needed: sheet sets for one full and two twin beds, blankets/comforters, pillows, pillowcases,  and these kitchen items: a trash can, table cloth, dish cloths, food storage containers, dish soap, cleaning supplies, and food.  In addition, a clock radio with alarm, a first aid kit and childrens' toys and books (new or in great condition) are needed.

Next steps: Please consider making a financial donation in any amount.  Checks should be made payable to St. Margaret's and clearly marked "AAP (Adopt-an-apartment)" and placed in the collection plate this Sunday, February 24, or mailed to the church, or delivered to the Rev. Emily Guthrie or to one of us listed below.  Please also consider contributing one or more of the furnishings we need, new or in unused condition, and bring them to the parish hall by next early next week.   Then, join us on Saturday morning March 2nd as we deliver the furnishings and help set up the apartment as a new home in which God's work of healing and renewal can begin.   For more information, or to tell us how you might participate, please contact David Griswold ( or Mason Ingram (   Thank you so much in advance for your generosity.
