We are proud to announce that our parishioners have adopted the 35 families we were given by Mary’s Center. This means that each and every family member will receive a wrapped gift appropriate to their age andneeds. We have also made a great start with donations for grocery cards for these families. Thank you to each and every one of you and the great community of St. Margaret’s that extends beyond our walls and beyond our parish members.
What’s left to do?
1. If you adopted a family, please make sure your wrapped gifts are at St. Margaret’s on Sunday, Dec. 18th. It is best if you bring them before or after the regular Sunday services; but if you need to drop them off early, please call Bridgette in the parish office and arrange a time to bring them by during the workday. If logistics seem to become impossible- call Dan & Bryan and we will see if we can help.
2. Make sure each gift is clearly marked with the recipient’s name and the family number. Make sure the family number is also attached to the outside of any larger bags or boxes used to hold the individual gifts.
3. If you would like to help but are not associated with a specific Mary’s Center family, you can give a donation for grocery cards. If it is a check, please make the check payable to St. Margaret’s Church and put “Adopt-a-family” in the memo line. If you give cash, make sure it is in an envelope designating Adopt-A-Family or tell us when you give it to us that it is for Adopt-a-Family and we will make sure to keep it separate for that purpose.
Delivering the Gifts from St. Margaret’s to Mary’s Center never fails to be a humbling and gratifying experience. Contact us if you are interested in helping to load and unload gifts and/or driving your vehicle from St. Margaret’s to Mary’s Center to transport gifts and/or delivery elves. We do not have a delivery date yet but it is typically early evening, around 5:30 pm in the middle of the week before Christmas. If you can help, please contact Bryan or Dan.
The mission of Mary’s Center is to build better futures through the delivery of health care, education and social services, regardless of ability to pay. It demonstrates how improved access to prenatal and pediatric care, coupled with sensitivity to culture and family, lead to healthy mothers, healthy children and healthy families. The Center, located in Adams Morgan, provides a dynamic child development curriculum, intensive home visits for vulnerable families, case management for teen pregnancy prevention and planning, educational training to prevent school dropout, employment referral /placement and HIV testing and prevention. Our holiday ministries with Mary’s Center have been a tradition at St. Margaret’s for many years.
