On the Way

Bible Study and Fellowship Group

Upcoming meetings: September 13 and 27. The resource will be "The Beatitudes for Today" by James Howell.

Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way. Mark 10

A continuing opportunity for adult fellowship, explorations of the Bible, book discussions and reflection on the faith journey is offered in On the Way, which meets on two Monday evenings each month.

This summer the theme for our study will be “Living God’s Laws,” an exploration of God’s expectations for us as a covenant people as reflected in the Ten Commandments and as interpreted by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. The group recently completed a long and lively survey of Christian spirituality in God Seekers by Richard Schmidt. During Lent we discussed Martin Smith’s A Season for the Spirit.

In the past, this lay-convened group has made rewarding explorations the bible such as in the Books of Amos, Jonah, Ecclesiastes, and the Acts of the Apostles. We have enjoyed examining the differing theological perspectives of authors such as Marcus Borg and NT Wright, the ideas of Brian McLaren about the church’s engagement with social problems, and the perspective of Francis Collins on the compatibility of science and faith.

All meetings are open to all, and are noted in the Sunday bulletin. For more information please contact David Griswold at griswolddag@aol.com
