Dear St. Margaret’s parishioners,
What a wonderful journey we have been on since June 2010 when we said good-bye and Godspeed to The Rev. Susan Blue, our rector for 13 years. Our Interim Rector Anne-Marie Jeffery and Assistant Rector Emily Guthrie have provided us love, support, challenge, humor and inspiration, all to help prepare us for this moment. Our Rector Search Committee and Vestry have devoted hour upon hour of hard work and prayer to finding and discerning our new leader.
And so it is now on behalf of the Vestry of St. Margaret’s, and with wonder and awe at the power of the Holy Spirit, that I announce that we have called The Rev. Kimberly D. (Kym) Lucas as our next rector. We believe that Kym shares the vision of St. Margaret’s and is the best person to lead us into the next manifestation of that vision. Kym is coming to us from St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Raleigh, NC, where she has been rector for the past six years. Prior to St. Ambrose, Kym was a Priest Associate at Church of the Advocate in Chapel Hill, NC; Rector of Christ Church, Pittsburgh, PA, and Assistant Rector of St. Luke’s, Trinity Parish in Bethesda, MD, in the Diocese of Washington. Kym is a graduate of Wake Forest University in North Carolina and received an MDiv from Union Theological Seminary in New York. A cradle Episcopalian, Kym is married to Mark Retherford and together they have 4 children: Jaden, 10, Kaia, 8, Ronan and Croix, 4.
Kym and her family will move to Washington, DC in mid-December and start at St. Margaret’s on January 3, 2012, with her first Sunday with us on January 8, 2012. Kym has prepared a wonderful list of fun facts about herself as a way of beginning to introduce herself to St. Margaret’s. She invites you to contribute to the scrapbook in the Parish Hall, communicate with her at email@example.com and share her excitement at our call of her to lead St. Margaret’s into the future.
