"Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs."
I am always happy when I get to worship in community without being responsible for anything. I get to be fully present; I get to sing without worrying that I will miss my cue; I get to pray without preparing for what comes next. I love it when I get to truly immerse myself in the worship experience.
The opportunities for me to worship like this are few and far between. And they almost never happen in the context of my primary worshipping community.
This is why, despite the stress it brings, I look forward to Holy Week at St. Margaret's. On Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week worship is led by the laity. Gigi Ross organizes the Taize service. Tom Head and Gene Batiste lead Tenebrae. And they do so brilliantly. On these two days, I am led in worship. I am free to be fully present with my community in the space I love. And there is a joy in that I cannot explain.
I am thankful for those who lead worship so well. They are a gift to me and to their church.
