50 Days with Anne Lamotte

This year's Festival of Faith and Writing at Calvin College brought together some of my favorite spiritual writers, including Anne Lamott.  As we move from the introspective season of Lent into the celebrative spirit of The Great Fifty Days of Easter, I'm taking along with me several nuggets from Anne's keynote speech and interview.  I hope they populate your own Easter Season with some thoughts worth celebrating:

  • "It's not 'take and figure it out.' It's 'take and eat.'"
  • "Laughter is carbonated holiness."
  • "I get people water and I try to return phone calls. That's my mission statement."
  • "The great prayer of what. ever. You promised you'd never leave me and I'm gonna hold you to that."
  • "I believe in crying. Crying is baptism. It moisturizes the ground at your feet. Holy ground."
  • "We start where we are and then we stick together."
  • "You are loved and chosen. This is a come-as-you-are community. You're pre-approved."

Any one of these could take any one of us at least Fifty Great Days to unpack, make our own, and put into practice.  Have fun.  I plan to.
