Assistant Rector Emily Guthrie
Emily joined the staff of St. Margaret’s in February 2010. Having spent 10 years as a transitional Deacon in the Diocese of Washington, Emily was ordained to the priesthood on January 16, 2010. She comes to St. Margaret’s from a year and a half sabbatical, attempting to learn the fine art of parenting. For the previous eight years, she served as the Executive Director of Capitol Hill Group Ministry, a community based non-profit supported in part by an interfaith coalition of congregations, businesses and neighbors. CHGM provides emergency and longer-term supportive services to homeless and at-risk individuals and families.
Her previous professional experiences ranged from teaching English at a university in Indonesia to working with at-risk youth in DC, from assisting with international science policy programs at AAAS, to serving as program and youth coordinator at St. Mark’s, Capitol Hill. Emily earned a degree in history from Princeton in 1985, and masters of divinity from Yale Divinity School in 1995.
The youngest of five daughters, Emily grew up all over the U.S. but has called the District and environs home for the past 22 years. She currently lives in Falls Church with her beloved husband Michael Lindner, a defense attorney, and children - stepson Noah, 18 and stepdaughter Jamie, 14. An amateur singer and actor, Emily is thrilled to know that St. Margaret’s engages in regular thespian affairs. She loves conversing and laughing with friends and family (fortunately), good food (unfortunately), hiking and beach walks when possible, art and music.
